New Printing Software: What You Need to Know
As the 2024-2025 academic year begins, new faces and class locations aren’t the only things students are familiarizing themselves with. This term the library has introduced new printing software that has been up and running for the last two weeks. Here is everything you need to know about Mobility Print.
The General Idea of the System:
The Mobility Print software helps track how much students spend on printing, keeps printed items from getting mixed up in the output tray, prevents students from using other people’s login information, and enables printing from other personal devices such as tablets or smartphones.
How to Print From the School Computers:
Using Mobility Print on the school computers is fairly simple. The software has already been downloaded to the computers, so all you have to do is select the print settings (i.e. color or black and white, printing one or two-sided, etc.) and enter your printing ID code in the dialog box that appears. You then go to the printer and log in with your printing ID or the username and password emailed to you from the library. Once you are logged in just release your files from the printer and you are done!
How to Print From Your Laptop:
To print from a laptop, access your NSA email and find a message from the Tyndale Library titled “Tyndale Library Printing Instructions,” where we have sent a link to download the Mobility Print app. As the file downloads you may have to select “keep” on the file to allow it to download properly. Once the program is installed, you will have to select a language, accept the terms and conditions, and log in with the username and password sent to you in the printing instructions email. You should now have access to the “Library Printer.” You can confirm this by checking printing destinations when you are about to print (you may have to select "Add Printer" or "See More" to find the printer). Now you can print your document as you normally would, making sure to check the print settings before you send your file to the printer. Once you print from your laptop, like the school computers, you will go over to the printer and log in to release the file.
Things to Note:
A few things to note about the new printing system: Each student starts the year with ten dollars worth of free printing credit with black and white sheets costing 10 cents and color 50 cents. Make sure you pay close attention to whether or not you are printing in color because Mobility Print often defaults to printing in color. You should be able to check on the printer before you print to see if it is printing in color. Just go to your jobs pending release and select “grayscale” before you hit the blue print button to release your print. If you do accidentally print in color (when your cost per document total equals more than 10 cents per page) please come to the front desk and let the librarian know and we will refund your account. Once you use up your ten dollars worth of printing credit you can come to the front desk to buy more printing credit with cash, card, or contactless tap payments (please note that paying with a card will come with service fees of 10 cents and 3.5%). If you send a file to the printer from your laptop or a school computer, the file will be held in the printer for up to four hours before expiring. Please note that you must also be on school Wi-Fi to send files to the printer.
Please be patient as we all figure out the new printing software, there are bound to be hiccups along the way. Don’t hesitate to ask a library staff member for help if you have any questions regarding printing or the setup process. We are happy to help!
