Tyndale Library’s annual book sale is rapidly approaching! Every year, we offer a collection of books that, for one reason or another, we’ve opted to pull from our shelves. Whether on account of damage, a newer replacement, low check-out history, or simply limited space on our shelves, it always results in a treasure trove of interesting books becoming available. The sale starts this coming Monday, April 7th, and runs through the end of the week. Offerings will be on a table across from the library desk, where you'll be able to purchase them.

We can’t list all of them here, so I glanced down the shelf and pulled a few highlights to show you what’s in store. Here are some collection shots to give you an idea of what will be available. Paperbacks will be sold for $1.00 each, and Hardbound books will be sold for $2.00.

1. Wilson Books

Pastor Douglas Wilson, a founder of New Saint Andrews College, has authored so many books that we stopped counting them long ago. Here are six books of his relating to Education and Discipleship which will be among the items for sale next week.

  1. Mother Kirk: Essays and Forays in Practical Ecclesiology

  2. The Paideia of God, and Other Essays on Education

  3. The Case for Classical Christian Education

  4. Repairing the Ruins: The Classical and Christian Challenge to Modern Education

  5. Excused Absence: Should Christian Kids Leave Public Schools?

  6. Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning

2. Writing Rules and Regulations

We’ll be honest, these aren’t everyone’s favorite. But good resources can be invaluable for ensuring your work is done “by the book.” Plus, there’s a bonus Double Wilson (Wilson2) included. Make sure your publishing isn’t breaking any laws!

  1. The Rhetoric Companion by N.D. Wilson & Douglas Wilson

  2. The Copyright Book by William Strong

  3. MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers by Joseph Gibaldi

  4. The Law of Literary Property by Philip Wittenburg

3. Lewis and MacDonald

C. S. Lewis was enthralled with the work of George MacDonald, and attributed much of his conversion and worldview to his books. Of course, Lewis himself became an even greater literary force as far as popularity was concerned.

  1. Letters to Children by Lewis

  2. Mere Christianity by Lewis

  3. Phantastes by MacDonald

4. Classic Poetry & Literature

But I see you’re only interested in the exceptionally rare! Here are a few classic works of literature and poetry that will be in the sale, from Homer to Poe:

  1. Poe: Poetry and Tales

  2. Chandler: Stories & Early Novels

  3. Emerson: Essays and Lectures

  4. The Odyssey of Homer, translated by Richmond Lattimore (2 editions)

  5. The Education of Henry Adams by Henry Adams

5. Other Offerings of Note

In addition to the many individual books, we will have several sets for sale. These will have specific pricing for the collection. These are at least most of them:

  1. Spurgeon’s Sermons, Memorial Library (20 volume set)

  2. The Works of John Flavel (6 volume set)

  3. Philpotts’ Sermons (5 volume set)

  4. Debate on the Constitution (2 volume set)

  5. Encyclopedia Britannica 1897 edition

  6. Century Library of Music (14/20 volume set)

  7. History of the Christian Church (7 volume set)

  8. History of the Catholic Church (4 volume set)

And finally, we will have a free box with heavily damaged books, some vinyl records, etc. Make sure to take a few minutes during the week and stop by! Due to the quantity, we will likely not have all books out at once, so expect additions throughout the week. Enjoy treasure hunting? A literary nerd? Or just want to flip for profit? The Library will be the place for you next week. We'll see you around!
