Charles Higgins is the author's pseudonym belonging to an NSA alumna. We reached out to ask her more about how her books came about.

How did you first come up with the idea to write Rabbit?

It started with a little scene: an image of a kid leading a group of friends on an adventure and just “happening” upon some bad guy in the midst of his crime, and stopping him. That is where the not-very-bright but very lucky reverse Sherlock Holmes was born.

How did your time at NSA help prepare you for writing and publishing?

NSA steeped me in a whole world of stories: battles of Sparta and Athens, Norse myths, Achilles… Not only did these expand the possibilities of what was possible in a good story to me, but gave me a huge tradition to start drawing on (and not just in stories, but in the ideas of our fathers, and in a better understanding of how the world works) It’s like being handed the keys to a goldmine, with a dwarf to guide you.

Do you have any upcoming projects you’d like people to know about?

Hoping to release the third and final book of the Rabbit trilogy this year! Otherwise, I’ve been meddling with a book about zombies (because why not?).

What are you currently reading, or what was a book that you read recently and enjoyed?

Current Reads: I’ve been working through Brandon Mull’s “Five Kingdoms” series. For a good story about an Everyman hero (Everymiddleschooler hero, I guess, he’s only about 11), this one hits the mark, with the bonus of a fun world to explore.

Thank you very much! Rabbit and its sequel are available to check out from the Tyndale Library.
